Antibiotics are an amazing treatmeant for bacterical infections, However, over prescribing/overuse of antibiotics has caused infections to become less effective and resistant to treatments which, has led to the emergence of “superbugs”.
Antibiotics are used to treat serious bacterial infections and do not work for everything. Many mild infections, including those that aren’t caused by bacteria, can get better on their own without antibiotics.
Clinicians will not always prescribe antibiotics for Coughs/Colds/Flu symptoms etc and therefore a prescription should not automatically be expected. Should the Clinician feel antibiotics are the appropriate treatment for your symptoms a prescription may be provided only after you have been examined.
